Legal custody means legal responsibility for a child.
This includes the right to make decisions regarding the child’s health, education, and general welfare.
It also includes the right to access medical and education records and the right to speak to and obtain information from doctors and other health care providers; schools and school officials; and other people who interact with your child.
- Sole Legal Custody gives one parent the right to make these decisions alone.
- Joint Legal Custody means that both parents make these decisions together.
